1984 190d 2.2 5spd master and slave cylinder replacement question

The car is an 84 190d 2.2 5spd. Ive got a good look at the master cylinder replacement which is at the clutch pedal ,its taken off and ready for the new one .The slave cylinder I cant see ,is it on the bellhousing? Do I need to dismantel something to see it better?

I don't know about your 190 but with the 123s its right in the open on your bell housing. You shouldn't have to take anything apart to see it. An easy job on the 616 but a bear on the 617 with that extra cylinder.

The slave cylinder on the 190 5-spd is just like the 4 spd for the 123. It is on the right side of the transmission attached with 2 13mm bolts.

Remove the hydraulic line, the 2 bolts and it comes right out.

Thanks ,yeah its a PITA to get to the upper 13mm bolt ,its either 2 ft of extensions with 2 swivels or a bent wrench Ill need.Ive got the master off with a new one installed and Im working my way with the final piece ,the slave C.Once its done it should be a service free unit for the rest of her life .This old car has 330k on it but 1/3 of it was being towed by and RV,the owner took care of the service pretty well but just ran out of interest in the car to get this road worthy issue done. Looks like the cylinders are lifed out.Sunday I should have it wrapped up and hitting the road ,35 mpg and just enough pep to keep out of the way of the nuts. Thanks again for your input.

Speaking of that upper 13mm bolt, I stopped by too see my shop owner/buddy yesterday and i was whining about doing that slave cylinder job on the five cylinder 123s, he said 'just drop the tranny cross member (four 13mm bolts) and things will drop down a little to gain more room to work. doh! Also helps with the upper starter motor bolt. The additional use of a wedge will help too. I'll try it next time.

I have found an "S" shaped 12/13 ring spanner works well on that top bolt - just enough room to get another bite!

And for the upper starter motor cap screw a short piece cut off a 10mm allen key with a Mastercraft 10mm ratchet ring works like magic.
