76 300d leaking diesel

I am putting my 300d back on the road again after sitting in my barn for the last three years (not me, the car.) I noticed that there was fuel on the concrete below the fuel tank and investigated. It appears to leaking from a very large set screw at the center bottom of the tank and I am assuming that it is the fuel screen after looking at the photo at Fastlane, is this a correct assumption? If so, I bet it just needs a new o ring, but feel that I should just replace the entire unit. If this is the fuel screen, how does it work?

Thanks,
Brian

You are correct that is the tank strainer, or should be. I pulled it out of my 76 300D a while back and found that it was just a plug, someone had removed the strainer from the bolt.

Usually you don't need to replace the strainer, just remove and clean with some gas or other solvent.

I dont think there is a seal on the plug, but im not 100% about that. Try just tightening it down to stop the leak.

Its a large allen head and i didn't have the correct size to do it properly. So I got a bolt the correct size, put to nuts on it and tightened them together and used that to remove the strainer plug. Hey, it worked.

Thanks for the reply, I will try tightening the way you suggested and if still leaks, I will find an o ring that fits and retighten.
