'79 300 SD heating problem

I'm pretty familier with the type III heating system in the '85 300D. Is the '79 300 SD similar. I'm replacing a broken blower motor and have been using the heat just by allowing the air to blow through. It will either work wide open and heat you out of the car or stay off and freeze you. At times even with the heat botton on it will not heat up. Is there a monovalve similar to the valve in the '85 300D? As I'm driving from New England to Georgia next week, I'm also interested in any temporary fixes (manipulating valves under the hood?) to get me to warmer climites.
Thanks, as always,

As you can see from my posts, I am looking for information on the heater control valve. I noticed that somone prior to me owning it had bypassed mine by disconnecting the hoses closest to the front, and connecting them together with a piece of tubing. Tired of the heat all the time I have just taken my valve apart to try and fix it. (could not justify 380$ for a new one and there is nothing that I will not try to fix or take apart) I now have the motor running again(valve), but it seems weak. I should here something in about a week for a replacement (motor only). I don't reccomend taking it apart for everyone because it is complicated from a timing standpoint and I am still trying to get some information on this from the Forum. But all it has cost me to this point is time, and I expect the motor to be under $20.00. The valve portion itself seemed to be in good condition because it did't leak and rotated very easy. If you have any other question send me a post.
