removing windshield sealant

Replacing front window seal. Previous installer used black hardening sealant which does not want to come off the frame. Any one know how to remove this easily or is it a pain.
Thanks

That should be ureathane....
and since it is stuck on there solid...
I have been told by 3M reps that it is fine to just clean it and leave it...
that the sealant you are going to apply should stick to it just fine..
just cut off all you can so as to not affect the placement of the windshield.. but getting it down to eat off of it clean should not be necessary. That advise went against my instincts too since they talked about how clean the actual glass needed to be... and that the glass needed a primer on the little edge the sealer was going to be in contact with.. and not to touch it after priming...
You can contact the local 3M rep... the one here even sent me a bunch of samples and loads of literature...

uh, you are going to want to remove all the sealant if you are trying to replace the window with the original rubber seal though.
anybody got suggestions on how to get all the sealant off in that case?
my window guy used a long handle razor knife and MANY blades getting all the sealant out of the window on my pickup. then he took the balls of sealant and used it's tacky face to pull the remainder out. it worked for him... of course I just stood there and watched.

I thought that we didn't use sealant on these windows, Just the non hardening type after install. I worried that the existing urethane will stop the seal from working correctly.

Why don't you check with 3M or the dealership and tell us what they say....
