Diesel Injector Blockage?
 

Hi,
(Ignore this part I just realized its purpose after reading around a bit... return hose end plug)
I had a blockage in my injector, its a very strange thing. I am in the process of doing a compression test and I figured I would change the nozzles while I had the injectors off. I cut the hoses off the injectors...and on the last one (closest to car compartment) I see a metal thing sticking out so I cut further down and sure enough there was a piece of metal in the hose. Is this for blocking fuel? Or is this not suppose to be there?

Also, I noticed that my injectors get progressively less "wet" from the front of the engine toward the back. The back of the engine injector is the one with the blockage and it appears slightly rusted( As in the nozzle is rusted). Just wondering if this was normal or it was a sign of IP timing issues or something else.

Also, how important is it for me to get these adjusted if I change the nozzles? I am using monark nozzles from mercedes source.

Most of the time it's from leaking fuel return hose, could also be the hard line connection at the top.

You should not install the new nozzles without thoroughly cleaning them and pop testing and balancing the set. I correct an awful lot of them from folks who try to do a nozzle replacement in the driveway or on the fender. You could very well end up with it running much worse than with the old nozzles.

No offense, but if you don't know what the return line plug is you shouldn't be tinkering with your injectors.

Probably a good call to cut the hoses. Search for "nicking the barb" on the injector. The ends of the hoses get very hard and you want to remove them carefully in order to prevent future leaks.

Contact Sean Watts in the post above and he can do the work for you. He Helps a lot of forum members with their injectors.... and just did mine. Excellent!

Save that plug!!! It's cheaper (and reusuable) then the cap the dealer sells you now!!

How did you determine there was a blockage?

Read the first sentence in post #1. (The one immediately following "Hi" and ending with "return hose end plug.")

Then look at the pictures of the "blockage."

Ah I misread that to say the that injector was blocked, not the return line.
