99 E300TD Loss of power

Drove 40 miles in 95 deg F ambient. Using cruise control.

Engine temp was around 95 deg. Normally the engine runs at 80-85 deg.

Got off exit car drove normal for 5 miles, then suddenly the car felt like it had no turbo charger. Push accelerator to the floor and the car barely accelerates.

Made it to work, shut down engine, checked fluid levels and found ok.

3-4 hours later I started back up and drove it a couple miles and the car was fine.

Everything has been fine since. That was 2 days ago. I did the same drive twice since. Similar ambient temps.

This is the first time this has happened.

There's a vac line connection from the intake (near the EGR valve) to the turbo boost sensor on the firewall.... check that first. Broken line means no boost signal to the ECU and no extra fuel.

Your car would've been running normal boost with way less fuel than necessary, aka running lean... leading to higher engine temps. Can't explain how it fixed itself, though.

BioPOWER - The vac line from the intake manifold to the turbo boost sensor (B28) looks ok. Thanks.

I did some research on the K40 relay.

I know it is the cause of a lot of different problems, it is a high fail item, costs $80-$100, and is easy to change.

The car has 106K miles and I do not know if the relay has been replaced.

Obviously I have no idea what caused this "glitch" but I know it is going to happen again. Seems like a good place to point my shotgun. I think I am going to change this relay.

I'm needing to do the same checking on this. Got the P0400 EGR code. I have been very bad and literally only driven it maybe 5 times for 100 miles in the past, oops 8 months or so.

Must check the vacuum first. Then I really need to get the rest of the o-rings changed to viton, seems like the IP is taking a bath in fuel just sitting there.

Its happened to me twice in the five years I've owned the car. Just one of those things.
