T124 roof-rack delete

Has anyone removed a T124 roof rack? Has anyone seen one without the rack (was it even available)?

I'm considering removing the rack and pieces, seeing how I like it, if it's nice I can have the holes welded and re-paint the roof, but I'd love to start with a photo before I start removing headliner.

Thinking about it, if I can't find a car without I can delete them in photoshop.

I saw an Audi 200 quattro avant sans rack once, thought that it created such a clean and sporty look, might be just the thing for Belle.

I've seen some BMW 5 series wagons without them and a few 123s. They don't seem quite right to me. I'd probably have raingutter racks on them if I found myself with a car sans racks.

The 124 has the strips either way, in the body seams. I've never liked the BMW 5-series wagons anyway, looked to clunky. Besides, a friend of mine bought one when I bought my TE, that bimmer rode like a corvette, noisy and harsh, ... but I digress.

Maybe it'll look like it didn't put on its makeup, but I'm going for a subtle unique look.

Not sure whos car this is, but downloaded it a while ago. It looks like it has the two racks, but no strips. I love the clean look of this car. I already have the 95 hood and lower body cladding to go on mine later this year. Just need some newer headlights.

I like the clean, slightly modified, yet factory look.

IMO it looks "bald", these roof racks give it a utilitarian "go anywhere carry anything" kind of look to these estates (lowered and "tuned" or in stock form).

It's like de-clawing a cat, so to speak. But that's just me.

But if you prefer it, why not?

This is the closest I could find, the rack is barely visible. Probably a member's car, very nice one if I should say!

And this is a quick Photoshop of a friend's former E320 (1994) which had some roof rack items that I tried to remove (poorly)

The slammed look is kind of cool I have to admit, frenched door handles and ... nah. But I think that the rack is going away, thanks for the photoshopping.

I removed the five strips on the top today, but will leave the outer rack. It will clean up the look a bit IMO. They were just stuck on with some kind of double stick tape. Used fishing line to get it started with a hair dryer and then just pealed them up by hand. I will post a pic later......Getting ready for paint

I dont mind the look with the factory roof wrack. I dont really notice the 5 strips. I do like the plain look of the W124. Mine is burgundy and I am thinking about going black.

Does anyone know if the Later W124 hood/Grille will swap over? My hood is dented, the newer looks more modern.

None of the door handles I saw above looked 'frenched'.

This is kinda an odd place.....

But there is a '95 300TE on the Indianapolis CL for $1800... if I had the money and room I would jump on it. Didn't feel like making a whole thread about it.

Just an FYI

The 94-95 hood, grill and lights will bolt right on. I am doing the facelift at the same time as the paint. I was sanding and filling rock chips this afternoon on the new hood. Also adding the body cladding and bumpers with stainless trim to really give it the newer look. I was able to get a good deal from the local junk yard. you can get them from any 124 sedan, minus the rear bumper.
