Unhappy 240d 4Spd Cold Clutch Issues?

Hey everyone. I have a '83 240d / 4 Spd and When shifting into a gear the clutch shudders alot when cold. After 10 or so shifts it starts to go away. Is there a problem? Anyway to prevent "shuddering" when cold?

how old is the clutch? Maybe you have a broken spring in the friction disc or you are running out of friction material.

Worn clutch? Stuttering is usually do to an uneven flywheel/pressure plate surface.

Yah, it sounds like its time for a new clutch, which is fairly easy as far as clutch jobs go.

You can measure the clutch thickness per the instructions in the FSM.

I have experienced this on some level with all manual clutches, even on a brand new Toyota. Sometimes can be especially noticeable while backing up. I have noticed this ever so slightly on mine when pulling out of the nieghborhood in the morning. Never bothered much, like I say I've found they all do it.

If it is severe then it warrants removal and inspection, possibly resurfacing the flywheel and a new friction disc. If not I would drive it and not slip the clutch. Maybe you're a clutch slipper.
