AC to Non-AC 300cd

Hiya, anyone done this conversion? I'd like to take out the complex US AC climate control and replace it with a Euro non-AC box. How difficult is it?

I haven't done it but the hard part is getting behind the dash. Unless you are doing everything yourself it would probably be cheaper just to find another vehicle.

It's not just the box. Just about everything between the air intake and the dash registers is different. There might be coolant plumbing changes as well.

Oh, and are you converting an early or late style ACC?

[edit] I was going to add that finding a Euro parts car is going to be difficult but there should be lots of donor 240Ds.

I believe you'll need to pull the whole dash assembly and center-console to do the job. Best bet is to swap in a 240D manual heat-AC unit, complete with control-panel, cables & wiring. You'll also need to install the manual 240D heater-valve that mounts to the underhood-firewall

Thanks Mark. Are you talking about a non-AC Euro 240d? Is there a way of simply swapping the heater boxes out?

Here in the US, you're very unlikely to find a Euro, non-AC W123 to swap in a heater unit. All the Euro W123s I've encountered in salvage-yards, and elsewhere, had AC, including an Automatic Climate Control I saw in an '84 Euro 300D,
Considering the amount of work required to pull the console and dash to convert to a manual system, I suggest transplanting a much more easily found manual heat and AC unit from a US 240D.
If you don't care for AC at this time, leave it without freon until you, or perhaps a future owner, want it.

Too bad you didn`t ask this question 2 wks ago, there was a 84 230e Euro W123 w/o air conditioning. first one I have seen. it was there on the 11th and the 13th gone.

Like said above, find a 240D and pull the heat a/c box out of it. the holes are all there to mount it. very simple to operate, and far less vacuum pods, maybe one.
