R&R of OM606.910 Cylinder Head Connector - Coolant Connection
Hey first of all I love this forum. So much time has been saved because of yall!
Heres my issue. I am having a hell of a time removing this "Cylinder Head Connector" which connects the top radiator hose to my OM606.910 block. I'm trying to replace it because it was badly rusted. I tried using a set of vice grips and a propane torch with no luck thus far. I also sprayed "freeze off" penetrating fluid in the joint. Hasn't really budged. Here are some pictures. What should I do? |

collapse it with a chisel
If you start at the top and punch straight down with a cold chisel or pin punch you can start to collapse it inwards. You may need to grind the chisel to a half moon shape to work it to the back. The idea is to peel it away from the head as you work towards the back. Always hit the steel never the aluminium head. We have to remove many corroded pipe nipples using this method. sometimes it helps to cut through the fitting in a couple of places using a hacksaw blade taped up and held in your hand , cut most of the way through then peel it inwards with the punch. Take your time, if you screw up it could be expensive. Cheers Dan

Don't mean to conjure up an old thread like this, but it was resolved just like you said Dan. First I used a chisel and then a nail set esque metalworking tool that got a good grip on the pipe. The new one was installed and timing case sealant was used to hold it in place. has been leak free for a few years now. Thanks for the tip!

THANK YOU for posting back-many of these go unanswered, we usually assume the original poster got frustrated and crushed the car.
