Question 91 300D little oil leak under IP ...what size tool?

I found some oil leak coming from the metal plate under the IP which is held in place by 4 or 5 Star screws. Any one have an idea what size tool I should get to tighten it?

I changed the harden seal of the metal plate on the side of the IP last weekend. there were 5 slot screws. I'm wondering why the screw on the lower right corner with yellow paint doesn't have a metal seal coated with sealent. any idea?

What is the yellow paint means?

thanks in advance!

I don't think you can get this plate off without removing the IP. This is why most of them leak and haven't been fixed, much too expensive.

Removing the IP on this engine is a pain -- requires several special tools to avoid screwing up the timing or breaking the timer -- it doesn't fit on a spline like the older ones. Bolts are under the vaccuum pump, too!

If it is a small leak, leave it. At least talk to a Bosch tech first -- screws with paint on them are "tamper resistant", in this case meaning that way the warrenty types can see if you screwed with it. Also a hint that you can make a mess if you don't know what you are doing.

Don't mess about with this pump -- repairs can be "$2500 and up, depending" (from the local Bosch injection service) -- he reecommends buying a rebuild and trading them in, not having them worked on -- cheaper.

Thanks! Peter. I'll return that gasket I bought. It's wet but not really dripping.
