Mercedes Newb with a 79' 240D
well yea, Hi my name is matt and i recently picked up a 79' 240D for DIRT cheap and the car is damn near flawless. I was pointed this direction by a friend of mine with a 300D and i'm hear to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I'm 20 years old and have been a Nissan fanboy for the longest time. I've been more involved in the sport compact community for quite some time, ive had a plethora of New Nissan's including 2 Altima's, 2 Versa's, a 2.0 sentra 07', an 08' and 09' Sentra SE-R Spec-v (hence my name) and now, switching gears a 79' 240D, the car is slow and i love every bit of it i can appreciate any type of car as long as its a quality build. I like clean cars and that wont change with this one, she will be basically restored no modifications. well without further ado here she is
1979 Mercedes Benz 240D (119,000 miles) -Silver w/ blue interior (which wasnt nearly as obnoxious as i thought it would be) it needs a few things fixed etc. but for the price i couldnt beat it.. it needs - Transmission cooler lines (car runs and drives but leaks a quart every 10miles or soo according to the previous owner) - Window regulators (manual) - fix the **** body work that was done but nothing major - new antenna - fix some VERY minor surface rust - New Glow plugs - and various odds and ends and some TLC honestly everything is so minor with this thing and the car originally came from California. The frame is literally spotless, ZERO rust, i was literally blown away and the interior is just as flawless.. the dashboard is perfect no cracks.. all the trim and everything is damn near perfect the car is clean as hell, everytihng works, but the A/C currently doesnt blow cold.. and will be fixed as well eventually. Other than that, when i get more pics up ill let them speak for themselves. i couldnt be happier with this deal and frankly i love the thing but since it was a quick spurr of the moment buy we ended up picking it up at 12:30am and needless to say our minds were going a million miles an hour. So after picking up the trailer and getting it to the car to look at it and get it home.. we realized we lost the keys to the tralier locks. So the ramps were locked in the trailer itself.. so we ended up having to go home and dremel the lock off after an hour of searching for it.. go back pick up the car and drop off the trailer because he needed the truck first thing in the morning.. sooo basically we ended up just leaving the ball attached tot he tralier and backing it off the truck lol.. and today we ended up cutting off the other lock to get the ball off so .. my frist adventure with the thing lol.. i'll throw some more pics up later of the car in detail (engine, interior, undercarriage etc.) but so far i love the damn thing.. already fixed the passanger window that was stuck down so no more garbage bag to keep the rain out YAY! as for future plans, i just plan on daily driving the thing for a while and fixing it completely back to perfect working condition. So yes... hi any knowledge you would like to bestow on me about the car/ site please.. let me know thanks again |

Looks like you scored a nice clean 240D. Looking forward to see more pictures of it.
Since you might be new to diesels, make sure you use diesel rated engine oil, such as Mobil Delvac 15W-40, or Shell Rotella 15W-40. Walmart has a nice selection of C rated engine oils.

Congratulation on your purchase. The body looks good. Just be aware that this isn't a Nissan but it sounds like you already appreciate that though. It's a very durable car. I have a lot of experience with these, so if you need any thing give me a holler.

Nice looking car !!! If you look after it you could still be driving it when you are 40 !!! You are blessed to be having Roy (whunter) casting his eye over the car. Good Luck !!!

The car really is incredible for the price. We have already fixed the pass window which jammed half way up.
Lesson learned, never leave my stupid trailers keys on my stupid bumper and drive away.
