Starter for a W124.128

received recently a used Bosch starter with foll. numbers
651 000 1218 021 12V
on solenoid 0331 303 061 561 12V 651

Would appreciate very much if somebody could confirm that this is the correct starter for a W124.128
Thanks

That might be a component number. Starter assemblies for MBs usually have a part number of the form 004 XXX XX XX. At least the part that's orderable from the dealer.

Sorry that's not much help. Someone will have to read numbers off the right starter.

If it's any consolation, the 124.128 starter is interchangeable with the 603 starter.

Starter for W123.128

Sixto, thanks for your reply - seems dealers and Bosch sometimes work with different numbers especially when it comes to factory reman. items.

Drop the First three numbers:

AND you've 0-001-218-021,which is the BOSCH I.D. number for a 218 series starter for Mercedes.

Any O.E. equipment Bosch makes for Mercedes has Two parts numbers:
A Mercedes part number
and
A Bosch number.

Mercedes applications are:
(1989-84) Mercedes 190D 2.2L, 2.5L Diesel
(1993-91) Mercedes 300D, CD, SD, SDL, TD 2.5L Diesel (Yes,This would be the 124.128)
(1987-86) Mercedes 300D, CD, SD, SDL, TD 3.0L Diesel
(1993-90) Mercedes 300D, CD, SD, SDL, TD 3.5L Diesel
(1991) Mercedes 350SD, SDL 3.5L Diesel
(1999-95) Mercedes E Class 3.0L Diesel
(1995-94) Mercedes S Class 3.5L Diesel

Wagner has available what looks to be all the internal parts:

If I were gonna keep the Starter,I'd replace the original Planetary Gear Set
(PLASTIC JUNK) with the pictured STEEL gear set.
[AS well as the needle roller bearing and bushings.AND the Brush holder assembly]
AND have a virtually new Starter.
