Please offer selling advice

I'm ready to sell Rommel, an 83 300SD. Two years ago, it was a decent running car. Since then car burglars took out the radio and alot of the under dash wiring. I've gotten it back to where it will pass inspection when I get a day off of work to take it in.

The engine is terrific. Starts first time every time and the oil cap when unloosened sits still when the engine idles and even when it revs. The body is a badly oxidixed repaint on a totally rust-free Texas body. The interior could not be worse. The climate system is dead. Cars burglars hit it and took out the radio and alot of the wiring harness. I got it back to to point where it will pass state inspection. The power steering system leaks and the transmission is funky, though I think that is due to a vacuum leak that I haven't had time to fix.

At this point $700 sounds like a good deal to me. Should I sell it as is or spend money to fix it up to sell in better condition?

i think the deciding factor is cold air.... if you have it...fix the car up to a decent standard...

if not, i would call it a day.

seems like the whole reason to sell it is not to have to fix it right?

I'd be buying more in the $4-500 range. Start at $700 & take the 1st cash offer you get. Then you'll be done & onto the next project.

A friend of mine got through school selling used cars using the following: Have multiple lookers scheduled for the same time. Give them a priority cue & let the 1st one get close to the car & make a decision knowing that others want it. Keep the others away so they don't verbally pick it apart. If the 1st guy passes, move on to the next one.

If the engine is as you say, "terrific," then you should have no trouble getting $500 on craigslist - it might take 10 days, but I'd do like Junkman said to do.

A buddy of mine just sold a mechanically-ok but ugly 85 300D here in Fort Worth for about $1300. It didn't have heat or air but ran well.

Yours should bring $700 or so.
