Throttle Bushing Failure

The throttle bushing on my car has failed. It's the one mounted to the fire wall. It looks to be the original. The "skateboard wheel" has turned to a powdered mess.

I do have a new one on order...yes from this site!

My question is, what does the "skateboard wheel" actually do? I see it's held together with a c clip.

When the new one comes in, I'll take pics of the old one and post them to this thread.

I was also wondering if this part can be repaired or rebuilt using metal and a bearing or maybe a teflon ball. I did not find a rebuild kit for it though.

I can't complain since it lasted 28 years.

I cobbed the one in my 82 with zip ties, a piece of black pipe and duct tape till it finally disintegrated. No rebuild kit available so I replaced it.
As to the purpose of the skateboard wheel IDK.

I believe the sort of ball shape is there so it will pivot/allow movenemt when the Engine is shaking.
Other wise as your Engine shakes you would get more or less Fuel with ever shake.

I had the skate wheel come apart a few years ago too. we were on a trip going through New Mexico, in a construction zone. dang linkage fell out and I was idling along .
I was able to band aid it together till I got home and replaced it from Phill.

Army, the one you show for your euro 300D, looks similar to my 80 240D that I need to replace soon. maybe your part# will give them a place to start.

I did the replacement last night, and it's nice to have good throttle response, instead of pressing the pedal 1/2 way down to even pick up a little speed.

I ran off and forgot to bring the camera to post the pics. Also, I lostthe little clip that keeps the linkage tied to the throttle support...oh well, a little bailing wire did the trick.

Whilst you're ordering a selection of cotter pins don't forget to stock up on your metric nuts, bolts and washers... I've recently spent a fortune on this sort of stuff but every time I loose a 'C' clip I think thank **** I've got some more in the garage.

(These days I just type in the **** myself to save on the extra computing power needed to correct my French)

I got my Cotter Pin assortment from Harbor Freight it must be 20 years ago and have used only a few out of it.
But, the convenience of it has made it worth while.

I get all my nut, bolt, pins, clips and washers from PNP. my favorite auto supply.
everytime Iam taking things apart, I throw the fastners in sandwich and freezer bags. when I get home, I throw them in a pan of gas to degrease them.

then sort them out is seperate bags, starter bolts, engine bolts, washers etc.... sure has paid off a few times.

can`t have too much junk.

JB weld

Whoever,

If it is not 'gone'. remove and disassemble. Clean with dremel to roughen surfaces. Line f/w mount with seran or wax paper. Use JB weld and secure.
Remove and file/sand to smooth and reinstall.

If 'gone' replace.

mine was great until I changed the motor mounts in the car... don't forget to disconnect the throttle rod from the linkage BEFORE you jack up the motor to change the mounts...
