HOLY!!! I got pulled over in NC to dip my tank!

today while driving from a job in troy NC, to charlotte, the NC highway patrol pulled me over strictly to dip my tank and test for dye!
beware!
he commented that he doesn't see many mercedes diesel's on the road.
he of course also ran my plate, and my drivers license, and took my hand gun and ran it as well!
I was driving my teal 82 SD by the way...

I am kind of ok with the periodical stopping diesels for testing for Off road fuel...but running your gun? Explain how that conversation went please? I think I would ask for a reasoning why he is taking my gun.

whenever I get asked for my DL, I hand my permit as well. he asked if I was carrying, I said yes, and he asked for it. he then asked if it was chambered, I said of course it is, and he carried it to his explorer cruiser and removed the clip and unchambered it. then ran all the info against my papers!

I do not have a Permit to carry, but mine is always in my glove box holstered, if I get pulled I put it under passenger seat since my papers are in there. None of my firearms are registered to me.

A friend got pulled once and when the officer saw his Carry Permit, he backed up and put his hand on his pistol. Illogical. The guy willingly pulls over, legally has a right to carry, and that happens. I do however understand caution.

Must be.

I've never seen this happen in CT before but i've heard about it. I wonder what would happen if they pulled someone over who was running a WVO mix

A friend who has a farm told me the fine for using off road fuel in an on road vehicle is something like $25,000. Is that consistent with what you guys know to be true?

well, the cop said I was doing nothing wrong, not speeding or anything, he just pulled me over because they are instigating a new program to pull randomly all diesels on the road. he had the thin clear straw dropped it in the tank, and pulled out a sample. he asked me where I had gotten my fuel last, and luckily, I had just filled up that morning on the way to troy, and had burned about 1/2 of it on the way back, and was less than 1 mile from the station I had filled up at. heh. I also wondered what Yellow bioD would have registered as, and if I was running WVO, he would never have known it because he did not ask to look in my trunk or if I was running alternate fuels.
the NC senate passed a law to not require taxes on wvo/personal bioD as long as it's not for business use. I'd not qualify for that loophole, but driving the benz the cop would not know to check my mileage or anything.

Interesting. I was just telling my 13 year old the other about certain fuels being dyed and how if you got caught with it in your tank, it was a pretty hefty fine. Maybe it was a slow day after all! Noticed that you are in Mt Holly. I graduated from Belmont Abbey up the road back in 1992 and have fond memories of my time in that area.

Out here in CA a pair of local Radio Announcers have been saying that the Cities are trolling for more revenue by having the Police ticket more.

$25,000 of revenue would be appreciated by any Government Agency.

I wonder if the Red colored ATF or 2-stroke Oil some put in their fuel will show up if a Tank is dipped?

You were lucky John !!
I like the idea of a piece of mesh in the fill pipe so that he cant get the sample tube in.
what would he do then?
Would have been good to ask him what happens if some one is running a waste ATF blend.
Sounds like you need a 2 tank system so you can put your off road diesel in the second tank !!

Diesel non-truck vehicles make up like barely 4% of the vehicle population. What a pointless "program". Maybe they should target gasser drivers driving with no insurance, that would likely net a lot more $$.

The idiots in power that came up with it probably figured that if a person was willing to drive a diesel, they must be up to no good like running farm fuel.

I cannot remember the last time I drove my Mercedes to a gas station. I live in California and since the state is going broke I would not put it past them to come up with something like this. I have a waste oil hauler license for personal use issued by the Dept. of Agriculture that allows me to carry oil in the car. If the oil is in the tank all bets are off and you do not need a license. But I bet they will find a way of making up on lost tax revenue. Thanks for the heads up.
