What is this? How do I fix it?

Can someone help me out and tell me what this is and how to fix it?
What is the name of the part to order?
This comes out of the firewall and connects to the accelerator linkages
It looks like it is trying to bend the linkages
The rubber pieces do not look like they are attached to anything
Behind the triangular piece is a round gromet? It spins freely not sure if this is supposed to do that

This seems to be a common problem lately.

The heat right now is just awful...maybe that is a factor
20 plus years in florida
10 in south florida
10+ in North florida
Never remember the heat index
getting over 110 for more than a day or so
It has been hitting 105-110 for a few weeks

Tell me about it...

We got a little rain late in the day and it really cooled it off. We still had record highs though.

Edit: You can go to the top of the page to cross reference parts. Either AllParts or FastLane.

I have not had this happen yet (knock on Zebrano).... But, I have read where people have wire-tied something in there "to get them home".

If you do a search there was a recent post on this...

"newtodiesel"... The one that is on your car is the newer style. The one in the bottom photo up above.

Edit: The one for the 1980 300D shows both parts listed above. So, you will have to "look at the part" to identify which one you are pulling. It is very easy to distinguish the 2 parts. But, you need to "look" at them.
