NJ: Diesels 96 and older = NO INSPECTION as of 8/1/10
As of 8/1 NJ is only inspecting for emissions. And since any diesel 96 or older was exempt from the emission test under the old law, those cars are TOTALLY exempt from any type of inspection under the new law. The Baker's Basin station manager told me to go home, scrape out my old sticker and carry on!

And they say that NJ is some kind of hell... You're in heaven!

CO hasn't had safety inspections in 20+ years, but I do have to do annual diesel emission tests.

In Iowa the safety inspection was scrapped back in the early 80's and there's no emissions testing on diesel power, or gasoline for that matter.

So, is this the part where I walk out to the benz and rip the inspection sticker out?

IL -Emissions inspection only, for gas cars 1996+, diesel 1997+. Inspection is free for the user. If you don't pass, they can suspend your drivers license. You don't need it to get plates.
MO - Easily-passed safety inspection for all. Costs about $12 every two years. You need it to get plates. MO - EPA-designated high-pollution areas - same safety inspection, same emissions inspection as IL (gas 1996+, diesel 1997+). Inspection costs $24 every 2 years. You need it to get plates. |

In MI we have no inspections of any sort, and its actually a nice place to live.
It has been said that all of the nation's sewers empty in NJ.
