Angry Just a quick venting !

I just got back from the grocery store with the 85 300SD. As I walked in an extremely elderly couple in a bright red Buick that looked new and was as long as my Suburban were pulling upto the front of the store. After the lady got out he attempted to make a U-turn between the front of the store and the concrete and grass island at the end of the parking row. As I tried to wave him off so he would not damage his car, he proceeded to hit the air dam below his bumper and drive a tire up and over the curb. He had ignored me so I walked on in. As I did so the car that had been parked next the Benz left. I should have waited a moment. When I came back out the space next to my car was empty
and a 6 inch long scrap was from the end of the bumper to where the fender starts. This on a car that has been garaged since new and when parked my Dad
would say "Hell if I can hike all over Korea and Vietnam I can certainly walk a little farther to keep my car nice" ( sorry Dad). As I got in the car a man walked up and confirmed my suspicions that the elderly gentleman had hit the car and when he realized it backed out and moved to another spot. Then he picked up his wife and left.
NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED !
Thanks for listening.
Alan

Check to see if the store has video surveillance of the parking lot.

We need tougher restrictions on young & old drivers in this country. It's a privilege, not a right.

Ouch!
Maybe you can find him again, you know where he, at least used to, shop.

So the witness saw the old guy hit your car (traveling at approximately 2 mph), but was unable to get a license # of the geezer's ride?

Dang. Sorry to hear about that. This kind of stuff really gets me upset.

If you get the police involved and think you can recognize the elderly woman, maybe the store has video of the checkout line and will let you and the police review it. If she used a credit card, or if your grocery store has member cards, you might be able to identify her by name. Hopefully you have the name of the witness. Also, there should be a scrape and paint from your car on his bumper which will be incriminating.

You will have to act quickly though.

The man that saw the hit was one parking isle over but he saw the other car boat/rock a little as he pulled into the spot. He did not get the plate because until I came out 5-10 minutes later he was not certain the other man had hit me. When I came out and was thinking about detailing the car and looking forward to enjoying it and then saw the new and only scrape. I kinda let out a few expletives ( this is not my normal modus operandi, my wife never heard me curse for the first 12 years of our marriage) At this point he walked over and told me what he saw. I believe in the wheel of life and that what goes around comes around good or bad. I am just getting through a real bad time in my life and will not waste the energy on getting mad. I will get out the buffer and buff what I can, then mix the paint and shoot the entire bumper. Luckily the car has been garage and carport kept so matching with the new technologies available will not be a problem. Thanks for all the input. On a side note I used to be a member of MBCCA but allowed it to lapse many years ago. Are there any members in the DC/MD/VA metro area ( hopefully VA side of the river no offense) that meet on a regular basis. I used to be a member of the Porsche Club and attended the monthly meeting religiously.

Sorry to get so long winded. RML your tag at the bottom says you are looking for Sun Visors. I saw a thread about a fairly large selection of parts available from a member parting out some stuff. If you send an email to my home email I will send you his email ( can not remember it off hand)

I never park anywhere near other cars, even if it means a 5 minute walk across an acre of parking lot! I park by as many curbs and protective surroundings as possible. Usually I can get 1/2 of the car protected or more....usually all since I am 30+ spaces away from the lazy people.

Got it ! I have looked at some of the old tank barricades used in WW2 and wil manufacture them this weekend from concrete and old carbon fiber (possibly shreaded tires from my 500E as well) so they wil be both Panzer proof and Geezer proof ! ( It's okay I am a memeber of AARP this is not a discriminatory comment)
Thanks again for the comments. I got home and started troubleshooting the A/C on my wifes 03 Suburban and realized that the issue with the Benz was not so bad.

Indeed.
I was parked on the street next to a shopping center and with the 300d I backed up into an other Mercedes.

While I was looking for damage the Couple who owned the Car walked up.
I admited what happend and gave them my Insurance and other info.

I found out later they went inside the Store and had the Video Tape pulled and were allowed to make a copy of it.

I guess my Insurance fixed their Car as the Car owners had not called me at all called me at all.\

Getting the Video is a good idea. It sounds like the Older Driver needs to be off of the road before someone gets hurt.

the only way to get unqualified geezers off the road is to get the younger and more qualified citizens to vote.
if the geezers weren't the majority voters stricter testing would prevail.

I had the Porsche at a grocery store a few years ago, had stopped to pick up a few supplies. Parked in the back row, which wasn't that far, small-town store.

Walked out the door, there were two young children hanging on the "whale tail"! I yelled across the lot, they got off my car and retreated to the POS caddillac nearby. As I waked past the car, their father (or whatever the 350lb mass in the front seat was) didn't so much as offer an apology.

Some people just don't understand our quest to keep our things nice, pride in one's belongings, nor even pride in one's self. No point in even trying, just hope that the scrapes will be small ones.

Sorry to hear of your scrape, I could bore you with a couple more worse ones I've been subjected to, you got away fairly well and it sounds from your attitude like you're thankful to lose only paint, not bent metal.

It's a PITA. Some guy backed into my wides 240D and put a tiny dent in the fender about a year ago. She got all his info, but it turned out his insurance had been canceled for non-payment of the premiums (my wife actually works for his insurance carrier). I ended up just paying for the repair because chasing this guy would be more trouble than it was worth.
