W123 Differential front pinion oil seal R+R
Folks,
Can someone help me through this who's done it before? I am going to have the diff out of the car. Would it be best to take it to an MB indy who presumably would have the special tool needed to take off the pinion nut to get to the seal? Thanks, dd

Some of the Pinion Nuts need a special Pin Wrench some have a regular Hex Nut on them.
With both before you remove the Nut you are supposed to take a reading on the amout of force needed to rotate the Pinion (it has to do with the preload). Some say you can get around this by marking the positon of the Nut before you loosen it and counting how many turns it took to remove the Nut so that when you re-assemble it goes back to the same position. I think you could do the same but measure the amount of Threads exposed on the shaft before you loosen it. Or do both to be sure. There is a few threads on the subject.
