My drag link is a Moog. Got it from the local Carquest.

I doubt this has anything to do with lack of precision, looks like the early w124 models used a different center link, I got one designed for the later year. Check the discussion here http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=283259

If you are buying them from rock autoparts for w124 their URO center link does not fit, the ball joint is too thick for some reason.. I am still using my original one.
The link you referenced addresses why the drag link didn't fit. It might not have been the Uro brand as much as the wrong part.

Yep, exactly, a wrong part. The bad thing is that it was too cheap to ship back to them and I just tossed it into recycling bin! Bad decision since I could of used it on my "new to me" 1995 300D)))

I helped a friend install Uro tie rod ends some months ago; maybe 5K miles. He came by today so we could diagnose a 'clunk.' The left inner tie rod is shot. The boot is good but there is axial play in the pin. At least a quarter inch's worth.

What sucks about this is not the cost of the part or the labor to install it but the cost and inconvenience of an alignment. Now he has to decide whether to replace all the ends or only the bad one.

I installed an URO upper control arm a couple days ago. The ball joint spindle that goes into the knuckle is made of some very, very inferior metal. The nut that came with it stripped quickly. So I backed it up with the original nut. That too barely bit down.

I will be replacing the upper ASAP!

Hmm... looks like the discount parts store in the copper state doesn't offer Uro tie rods and drag links for an 87 300D anymore. ******** still does.

People need to stop buying the cheap junk, and only buy the good stuff, then the vendors/producers will get the message when they have 6 warehouses full of junk, and the good parts are in demand.

I use only European (preferably german) parts on my cars, and have never had any quality issues. In fact I recently got a set of ATE rear rotors that were made in CHINA! So I complained, made them ship them back at THEIR cost, and bought German rotors elsewhere. From now on I will do this every time I get a communist-country-produced part.

I bought TRW tie rod assemblies and had to replace the boots in 24K miles. The PN for the replacement boot is 000 330 04 85. They cost about $5 each in 2008. No problems with the new boots in 35K miles. I'm giving Uro a try. At least their products are made in Germany. If their boots go and the joints are still good, I'll just replace the boots.

There is no way in that really hot place that Uro parts, these tie rod ends anyway, are made in Germany. Maybe the box or the bag they come in is made in Germany. Or there's a town called Germany in China.

If I'm wrong and Uro is made in Germany, I'll likely give up on MB and buy whatever car Malcolm Bricklin imports from China.

http://www.uroparts.com/uro/site/about

Uro is a brand of APA industries, an American vendor of overseas parts.

>>In early 1991, A.P.A. Industries, Inc. contracted with factories in several countries to produce it's initial line of parts and accessories.<<

No shame! Those be communist parts! I wouldn't call 10k an achievement....I drive that far in 4 months.
