Climate control vacuum element - need source
This is a vacuum element for recirculating air on my 79 240D. It is located just behind the glove compartment. I have checked Fastlane and All Parts on this forum, and cannot find a replacement. All parts had one that was similar, but the metal arm was different. The MB dealer wants $72.
Does anyone know another source? Any help will be appreciated.

Sometime you have to poke around categories that don't seem correct. Or do a search.

Look up George Murphy here he sells all kinds of new replacement parts. You can buy just the diaphragms for that actuator for 5 or 8 bucks. I'd do all of them if you have the dash out. Our good friend Murphy will cause the rest of them will start leaking pretty soon as well.

I might have one used
If you could post a close up picture showing the part number on the shaft I can see what I have. I have several different vacuum elements from a late 70's 116. If I have what you need, I would ask $20 + shipping.
Thanks, Lee Zook |

Thanks to all for the replies. This is all good information.
I did not know that a replacement diaphram was available. I will try that route first. zooklm, the number on the shaft is 90.704.31.422 . I will contact you if the replacement diaphram does not work out. Thanks again!

Google search mercedes vacuum element and some pods will come up. Look in the FSM for function & location. Some sites you can get a list of Behr parts that apply to your vehicle. You could also send Phil an email. The fast way is to order from Phil, pull dash & install. Search & education takes time. I don't think I'll install a used element as some of my used elements work and some don't. Since the dash is out, I want elements fixed. Dash removal wasn't bad. Only some of the pods can be repaired with new diaphrams but I haven't researched specifics - yet. Again, info on this site and the FSM helps.
