A/C compressor change question
This is for the Volvo but it is a general question.
The compressor is starting to make noises implying an iminent demise. Can't I just replace the compressor? Other than filling it with freon again, isn't it just like replacing an alternator? OR does replacing the compressor mean I also have to change the evaporator valve, etc.? btw, this a/c has been converted to the new freon. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

If it is making noise you had better flush the system.
Install a new receiver/dryer, the proper oil, evacuate and charge. Do it right else you'll be replacing the new compressor in the near future. |

it depends on the type of system, but at a minimum, you need to flush the condenser, replace the dryer, and evacuate the system once the compressor and correct volume of the correct oil is replaced.
