OM617.952 Ratings
I am looking to stuff my spare 617.952 into a 00-04 Chevy Tahoe or Trailblazer Chassis... do you think that the 617 can handle it?

The 616 handles a 240d just fine lol, that is probably a good analogy hp-to-weight wise.

Before you get too deep into the project, check local registration requirements. They vary state to state but there are some EPA restrictions that apply in all states.

I've been kicking the idea around for some time now, and I have this engine sitting here with nothing better to do other then being started from time to time, or would a 603 be better?

It can probably move the vehicle, but not very quickly. Those are about as aerodynamic as a house.

The early G Wagons had the 617na engine, might have been a Euro version. now those are about as stream lined as a brick. they look like they are pretty heavy. I know they aren`t built for speed, and are geared lower for off road.

If you don't have emission inspections in Florida, you may be OK. If you have to re-title the vehicle as a diesel, your insurance company could give you a hard time, as you now have an altered vehicle. If you really want to do this, use a 4BT Cummins. Another excellent option is the engine and transmission combo from a Mitsubishi CO truck.
