1985 300D CA vacuum question
I have dealt with transmission vacuum quite a few times on 300Ds and I have a fairly good understanding of it. I know on an 85 you have a few extra vacuum valves to control vacuum to the turbo and egr. My question is, if you set up the transmission vacuum just as it would be on a 1983, should the transmission shift properly, or does the vacuum have to be routed through the blue valve on the inner fender. My 85 has a faily hard 1-2 shift, but the other shifts are modulated very well. Vacuum to the white valve and the modulator are set up properly; and both valves seem to be working well.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think the pre '85's initial vacuum at idle should be at around 10-15 and 0 at WOT, while the '85's themselves (those equipped with a blue amplifier) intial vacuum at idle should be around 15-17 and >0 to 5 at WOT.
I followed these guidelines sometime ago but I my transmission will either flare or shift harsh, so I just adjusted mine by feel and my vacuum levels ended up way off of the specs. My initial vacuum at adle is around 18 and between 8 - 10 at WOT, but believe it or not, it shifts flawlessly. I guess my transmission is too worn out to follow the specified vacuum levels.
