Looks black in the photo, is it one of many replacement dashes in a brown car?

It's the dash I'm buying, if it's black, to but into my black interior 240D. It sure looks black to me.

TheBenzBar's former 300CD with a black dash.

All this talk about black and dark brown, can somebody show a photo of a dark brown dash?

Here's a photo of mine close up in true colors, is this dark brown?

The instrument cluster on my 89 190E is dark brown, but the dash is black...

This is a dark brown dash, from bgkast's dashectomy.
I was the one who sold him the dash, and it definetly
wasn't black when I took pics of it in the sun.

That is VERY interesting. Thanks for the photo! Now I know my eyes are not fooling me and I have black dashboards on my cars.

So to answer your question, the dash for creme beige or parchment interiors is supposed to be black. The first photo of the dash you wanted to acquire looks blue because of the flash, but the second one seems to be black (the flash obscures the true colors in the photos).

How often did the brown dashes pop up during the W123 production run? Now I'm curious about this brown dash.

That dash in that photo looks like it was painted. As I've said before, I have seen hundreds of 123's and have never seen a dash that color.
Maybe it's from a grey mkt /euro car, or it's painted - either way it looks horrible with the blue imho.......

I'll think any dash that might look brown is simply a faded black dash (or painted as others have mentioned already).

mbeige: That 123 dash photo looks like the M-B brown to me, and it being such a dark brown is why so many think they have black dashes. The 201 is harder to tell from the photo but it would originally be brown in that color interior.

Unless one is an original owner, it is also difficult to say whether the dash in a 123 is original, as so many of them cracked or blistered around the instrument pod. Whether there were black dashes in any of the early 123s regardless of interior color I don't know, but they did put brown dashes in them in the later ones, I remember comparing them on the showroom floor (started selling Mercedes in '81).

Biodiesel300TD, that dash looks really nice. If the question of whether its super dark brown or black is hard to settle even with the thing in front of you, Id just buy that dash cause its in nice condition and put it in the 240, and forget about what color it really is.

I think its black personally

Brown, I really dont think so, but I wouldn't bet on it, seems theres always something to learn about these cars.

I agree with the poster above, that black, blue combo just doesn't get it.

didn't I read somewhere that "Armorall" turns black to brown with prolonged use

I'm buying it. If it's turns out to not really be the color I want. I'm sure I can find someone else that will want it, since it's nearly perfect. There is only one little funny spot that I can see from the pics I got.

Dyeing it using "Sem" products might "adjust" it to your liking
