Intermittent power loss, fuel filters or something else?
 

Recently I am experiencing some power loss in surges. I mostly notice it on the interstate. My filters are both fairly new, less than 6 months. Although I am running on a diesel tank now, just before this I ran 2 or 3 tanks of 50/50 diesel and filtered WVO. It ran fine on the WVO and has just started doing this on the diesel again. I wondered if the WVO knocked some gunk loose and I need a filter change or if this sounds like something else. It may not be related, but my fuel gauge has also started flickering occasionally.

You might try swapping the supply and return lines in the engine bay. This will pull fuel through the return line and bypass the tanks screen. If the surges go away then your screen is clogged. Also look at your prefilter. If it's all gunked up you likely need new filters.

It seems like the problem just got worse on a quick errand run. It is very hard to start once it's warm for some reason. And the last time I cranked it I had extremely low power. Trying to pull out in traffic at walking speed is scary. :eek:

I will try swapping the lines and also pick up some new filters on the way home.

I changed both the primary and secondary filters and the power was still nonexistent driving around the neighborhood. Then I swapped the lines and it accelerated as it should. I guess I have to check the tank screen.
Can I leave the lines swapped for the commute tomorrow or is that dangerous?

Not dangerous but don't let the fuel tank get real low.

This is a good point. Since when the Fuel Lines are swapped the Fuel is being drawn from a higher position in the Fuel Tank.
Does anyone know about how low the Fuel your tank can get before there is an issue; 1/4 Tank, 1/2 Tank or????

That would be good to know since I have about 1/4 tank at the moment. I'm about 2miles+ to the gas station.
