Throttle adjustment
In my previous 83 300D, many times when I used to take it to the mechanic he would "adjust" the throttle for me and give me 100% once again (whereas before he adjusted it I had maybe 75% or less and was therefore making less all-out performance!). Now once again, somebody has driven my car (a stereo install shop driving it only in the parking lot!) and messed up the throttle now on my 300SDL. So now it feels looser under the foot and also much less responsive compared to how it was before this guy drove (messed up) it. The most travel happens in the beginning where it feels much more "dead" than it did before, as I remember in my old 300D.
My question is: is the throttle adjustment a difficult process? I noticed the throttle linkage seemed a little more out-of-the-way on the 300SDL as compared with the 300D when it was right there on top. What exactly can be done to "adjust" this? I know that my throttle is not as responsive as before and the pedal pushes much easier as well. Thank you for any advise/help. Larry Ferguson 86 300SDL 151K (and need to change oil!) |

I saw a post here a few days ago about the value of "rebuilding" some of the connection points on the throttle linkage. Those guys spoke of replacing bushings at various places including one major intersection on the firewall.
Try to find that discussion. Maybe you need to do some basic repairs rather than just an adjustment. What they were talking about didn't sound too complex or costly. Nic |
