It fits...

A 508 would fit as well. It just wouldn't be as tight of a fit. This may also work: http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air-conditioning/sanden-sd-508-vertrical-gm-pad-back-16.php

I went with the 709 because the CID/revolution is the same as an R4 and the pulley is the same size. 508's have slightly lower CID/revolution but they have smaller pulleys so they must spin faster. The size difference is really small, about the biggest difference is the longer back with integrated valves.

Looks like Larry was on to something, but I think $350 would have been more in line. I guess I have lower R&D overhead...

All your thought, design and hard work is coming together, looks good.

I know you are still working on it and not finished, but you will need the bracket to clamp down the oil lines. orher wise they could vibrate and crack.
the sanden brackets and mount I posted in another thread has a piece that bolts to the power steering mount for the cooler lines.
you can see it here.

Wow, thanks Charlie! I was leaning towards a bracket bolted to the PS pump and that looks dead simple to make! I imagine I can even use the original clamp.

Here are a few more angles of it. there is just a bolt through it, then use the clamp that goes over the pipes and tighten her down.

You can see the plate here:

It looks like you wouldn't have any trouble with cooler lines using that bracket. You would have to have the holes in the front of the block though.

But does that TDC sender do anything? I cannot recall as I have an '85 with the different tach driver, I sold my '84 years and years back.

The reason I ask is the older BMWs TDC sender is just for testing only and serves zero purpose otherwise.

Are you going to need a right angle fitting on your gauge hose for that high pressure fitting ?

Nope. It's well clear of the PS pump assy. Both 134a ports have plenty of clearance but the R12 ports are a little tight but accessible.

No problems with hose routing yet. About all that's left is mocking up the accumulator and connections to the evaporator, pressure switches etc...

Hy Guys

Interesting thread!
I have a 617A in a 88 560 SEL and the AC sucks.
What type or number of Sanden compressor should I use for my car?
I like to use R134 if possible.
Are there any other mods I can do to improve my AC?

Thanks

Tom

Tom, you need to go to the top of the page and read the AC thread...the sticky one... then you may questions....but you won't be starting from ground zero...
but yes, there are mods you should consider...
