Wiper Issues on 1985 300D

The wipers and washers quit working a while back.....I replaced the stalk. Nope. I replaced the relay. Nope. hmmmmm......

I unplugged the wiring connector to the wiper motor at the firewall. By attaching a ground and "hot" wire I was able to simulate medium & high wiper speed, so motor OK. While this connection was unplugged, I could see where I was getting power when the ignition is switched "on" (so that rules out bad fuse and wiring from the stalk to the firewall - at least on this wire). I also can see voltage when ignition is "on" and wiper stalk is turned to either II or III (different pins are "powered" at each setting), but only very low voltage (on two pins) when stalk is set to position I.

What am I missing??? Is there an interval wiper control (where is it and how can I check it)??

Any thoughts??

THANX!!!
