Mine doesn't clunk when shifting, but when I back up and shift into drive, if I give it immediate "gas" then I get a huge thunk/skip thing. If I let it creep for half a second then all is well. I need to spend some time laying under the car........ Thanks for the pic of the bushing location. I will be paying attention to those and to the flex disks. "W124 E300D", that is one rusty W124 E300D!!!! Yikes!!!!

I noted your location was in Ocala...just referencing that my folks are as well. I personally like living in GA, but they like it there.

I'll let you know if the two bushings solve my problems... They only had one in stock, so I'll be waiting a little longer

Well, I expected a fair amount of labor for the bushings and I wasn't disappointed (note: I also did not want one single bit of doing it myself - pouring rain, no tools to do it, no garage). $343 + parts.
That's all it took to get rid of the clunk. The bushings must have been original... Sixto sure nailed it on the head

The clunk can be worned rear sub-frame bushes as well.
I don't think this has been mentionned yet? Olivier

So it was not flex discs at all?

For me? No. My car had the transmission rebuilt at some point not too long ago. The flex discs look pretty new...the shop said the same thing.
The problem happened out of thin air. I believe that the bushings were questionable, but a couple firm shifts just pushed them to failure.

I started this job today...the flex disks are in great shape, but the bushings are toast. I have the old ones out and am working to get the new ones in. I'll report back with pics when I'm done.

What are y'all using to remove the old bushings and re-install the new ones? I hear these can be a real bear to get in and out.

After reading another thread discussing clunking in the rear, I re-read this thread...realized I'd not reported back...
The bushings fixed the issue. Car drives real nice now |
