OM603 engine questions
Hi, I have a 1986 190D with the 2.5 liter engine... previous thread suggested that it is a OM603 engine. Couple quick questions:
1. Where is the engine number located? Doesn't appear to be on the passenger side of the block, unfortunately, where it would be easy to see. On the block under the injectors on the driver (US driver) side? 2. Curious about whether the fuel system has a priming pump? My 240D has a very obvious priming pump down low on the driver side wheel well. I haven't spotted the OM603 one yet... suggestions about where to look? Thanks for any help. I'm loving this car now that I have got the front brakes replaced! Really nice ride. Kurt |
Your engine is an OM602.
An OE block should have the serial number etched into the horizontal surface of the block just ahead of the injection pump. The injection pump is self-priming. Floor the pedal and crank for a minute at a time giving the starter about 5 minutes to cool between cranking sessions. I prefer to loosen all injector lines and crank in 10-15 second bursts pausing to tighten each line as it leaks fuel. Sixto 87 300D |
Thanks, sixto. Should have checked that previous thread (forehead slap!). Interesting on the lack of manual primer pump.

I thought the early 190's had 601's...
this one... http://www.dream-hp.de/190D/190D_800x600/OM601.jpg here's a pretty pic... of a 601 http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-19...D-1280x960.jpg how many cylinders do you have? |
US 84-85 190D 2.2 has 4 cyl OM601.
US 86-90? 190D 2.5/t has 5 cyl OM602. Sixto 87 300D |
