help with 240D (sudden loss of motor power)

i have a 240D with 250k miles. have recently replaced almost everything on the vehicle (new front end, new manual tranny, motor mounts, fuel filter, air filter, etc)
i just recently adjusted the valves, and ever since then i can barely go 55mph. i know this car is underpowered as it is, but i am pretty sure there is something not right with my vehicle. i would like suggestions on what i should do next to maximize my performance... please advise
thanks jeremy
