H/L wiper question

I am retrofitting my SD with 2nd gen H/L wipers. I know the radiator support is cut out for the brackets on post 1985 cars, so I am going to do a neat job of it. When I go to wire this up, will I have to put in a 2nd gen switch? I am not sure how the system worked on an SDL, for example, with DOT OEM headlights. Do they come on when the wipers/washers come on? If so, it will be cake.

They come on with the washer if the headlights are on. Not much more wiring to do it that way, no big loss if they wipe even if the headlights aren't on.

Thaanks for the info.
Easy enough to wire, then. I wonder if the h/l wipers would need a separate fuse, and if so what the amperage would be.
