New Style Hand Primers use with Bio Diesel

I came across the Bosch ad concerning their Hand Primer. In the add they say it has "Dual edge Viton® seal". I believe that this would make it OK for Bio Diesel use.
However, Bosch is not the only company making this stye of Primer Pump. The one comapny I remember is Febi. The other companies may use a another material to make their seals.

I got a knock off of that pump (big mistake). I think it was made by "Cargo". The thing leaked like a sive after only one day on the car running B20.

$15 and a Bosch unit later. No leaks anywhere. It has been on there for a few weeks now and has had 2 tanks of fuel go through it.

Lesson learned...

I have one on the 85 and works great. nothing to unscrew and leak.
I used it today, just push the little gizmo a few time and you`re done .

MY Datsun Pu had the old style like the MB. It would get stuck when I wanted to use it from lack of use and corrosion. then it rusted to where it wouldn`t turn . found one at PNP on an old MB, and put it on. It has been great. wonder why I put up with the old one for so long .

The PO of my car had already installed the New Style Primer on mine. When I first saw it I did not know how to use it and I tried to unscrew it like the Old one. Fortunately it moved down while I tried to unscrew it by hand and I saw the light.

Praise the Lord, I saw the light reminds me of that old Hank Williams song.

First time I saw one of those little black things didn`t think it would do much, WoW are they great.

It could be OK as when I was searching I saw Febi/Bellinstein (spelling?). The Bellinstine company makes the good shock absorbers so maybe they also make good Primer Pumps.

I have heard that the old style is better with WVO, but that may be because you pull it up instead of spring return, rather than any chemical/fluid compatibility.

I installed the Monark version on my 81 240D about a month ago. I heard that the Monark one is better then the Bosch one if you use Biodiesel. The Monark one is made out of steel and very heavy compared to the Bosch.

Used it a couple of days ago and no leaks!

I am not the expert on the Hand Primers. I just rememberd that last year there was some questions by Members using Bio Diesel if the New Style Hand primer would last.

I just happened to find the Bosch Hand Primer ad and since it said it had a Viton Seal in it I thought I would pass the info on.

Since it is common knowlege that Viton Hoses/O-rings work. the Viton Seal in the Bosch Hand primer should also work with Bio Diesel.

With the other Hand Primers only time will tell.

Another thing is the Hand Primer is not exposed to the same heat and pressure that the Delivery Valve O-rings are exposed to and the large volume of Volume of Fuel that passes through the Fuel Supply pump should keep it cooler that than other parts of the IP. So, ever regular rubber seals should last for some time.

Is this the steel Hand Primer you installed; from Mercedes S. ?

Yep, the picture is the hand Primer that I installed. The question that I have is, the Viton Seal is it made of real rubber? From what I have read is that Bio Diesel eats away at rubber seals. Not sure if it this is true or not, but this is way the old primer will more then fail.

I do have a new Bosch primer that I was going install intell I read that it to will fail, so I bought the Monarch one. I wonder if Bosch changed the desgin since I bought mine...

Viton is biodiesel compatible. I've used one with B100 for 5 years, no leaks.
