alda was removed on my "new" 87300D
the car smokes black on hard launches, just a puff not a huge cloud. should I get an alda back on there?
the car is REALLY crisp, but I'm certain fuel economy will suffer.

You are in the he same boat I am in...it was such a change when I removed mine! Apparently that means that it was not functioning properly in the first place...I have been trying to figure out how to make a custom ALDA with very little luck. Someone also had a write-up on how to repair the seals in the original.

Someone however had a writeup on and Oring that seemed to work...there were pictures with a guide and everything.

I was thinking that too, but even at idle mine smokes quite a bit...I am sure it is hurting my fuel economy now. So I will be getting one put on it and just turning it up as soon as I get chance.

I don't like the open point on the IP... it looks bad, and it could be a ingress for contaminants. also, the threads are developing rust... I hate rust on an engine!

No way I would ever put my ALDA back on. I still have it, so if I sell the car it will go with it if the new owner wants it.
I, too, had a problem with smoking at idle. Never could figure out why, it just stopped on its own after a couple of oil changes(??). Your foot is your friend if you want to lessen the smoke at take-off. But I am still averaging 30 -+ mpg on trips. As far as I can tell, removing the ALDA has not affected my mpg. The cap thing is a good idea. I will be watching to see who it is that is making the caps...

I recommend shimming the alda. The crush washers from the banjo likes for the oil or trans cooler worked like a champ on my w123. I cant wait to adjust my ALDA.
