alda was removed on my "new" 87300D

the car smokes black on hard launches, just a puff not a huge cloud. should I get an alda back on there?
the car is REALLY crisp, but I'm certain fuel economy will suffer.

You are in the he same boat I am in...it was such a change when I removed mine! Apparently that means that it was not functioning properly in the first place...I have been trying to figure out how to make a custom ALDA with very little luck. Someone also had a write-up on how to repair the seals in the original.

There is nothing to repair. Bosch does not sell the seal and the bellows inside are garbage if they become vented.

Thumbs up

Just drive like a sane man and all is well in the universe. Mine has been off for years.

Do I drop the hammer at times from a dead stop? Sure, just a black cloud puffs out the back.

I was thinking that too, but even at idle mine smokes quite a bit...I am sure it is hurting my fuel economy now. So I will be getting one put on it and just turning it up as soon as I get chance.

Idle smoke would be something other than the ALDA.

I don't like the open point on the IP... it looks bad, and it could be a ingress for contaminants. also, the threads are developing rust... I hate rust on an engine!

No way I would ever put my ALDA back on. I still have it, so if I sell the car it will go with it if the new owner wants it.

I, too, had a problem with smoking at idle. Never could figure out why, it just stopped on its own after a couple of oil changes(??).

Your foot is your friend if you want to lessen the smoke at take-off. But I am still averaging 30 -+ mpg on trips. As far as I can tell, removing the ALDA has not affected my mpg.

The cap thing is a good idea. I will be watching to see who it is that is making the caps...

The shaft has its own seal and it doesn't move without the ALDA, there is no way for contamination to get in.

I recommend shimming the alda. The crush washers from the banjo likes for the oil or trans cooler worked like a champ on my w123. I cant wait to adjust my ALDA.
