91 300D automatic transmission

I need help. With no prior warning my MB just stopped upshifting. R & 1st and back appear fine. I tried to manually shift, but no go. I checked the kick down switch and it is good. I also checked the throttle linkage and I don't see anything broken/missing.

This is our primary with no good MB mechs in our area.

Any thoughts

Have you checked transmission fluid level, color and smell?

Fluid was above the bottom mark, smelled OK, didn't feel gritty. Could it be the fluid with no previous symptoms?

O.K.

How Many Miles on the Transmission?
Has It ever been ReBuilt?

Where on Mother Earth are you?
(So if someone has a Hankering to assist in person ,they may. With your kind permission,of course!)

UnPlug the KickDown Switch and see if the No Upshift goes away.

Unhappy

Looks as if the tranny is toast. Due to time and experience (it is my wife's baby) it is at a local shop.

Anybody know who has the best rep for rebuilt MB trans or is it better to rebuild locally?

You should post your location for local help...also, many transmission have been wrongly diagnosed. MANY. I have talked myself in and out of my trans needing a rebuild and it is fine.

I am in south GA, off I-75, 30 mi north of the FL/GA border.

The fluid level is correct and has no odor. I have disconnected the kick down switch with no change. I have been told by mech, that it likely is not a clogged filter because it shifts correctly from R-1-R, with no slippage accelerating from a standing start. The garage is going to change fluid/filter. Vac runs 15" standing still at the ADL (?) prior to the tranny Vac modulator.

I have read through many of the suggestions here and believe I have covered all the bases. Any thoughts what else to try?

Bowden cable could be stuck or something maybe. Look under car for big rubber hose looking thing going to transmission. Its supposed to be clipped but the clip can brake and sometimes it hangs down. If something snagged it it could be jammed. Give it some tugs and see if your partner sees the linkage move on top. Have them move the linkage and you see what happens down below.

Yeah. What's that thing on the passenger side of engine attached to throttle linkage that looks just like a bowden cable except without the adjusting nut that we were talking about here http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=272044&page=2&highlight=wayfarer+bowden ?

I stand corrected. The Bowden cable or the control pressure cable is there, but it doesn't play as large a role as in other Mercedes.
My bust sorry. Mea Culpa

There's a trouble shooting section at the end of the manual.

Also some interesting info here:http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w201-190-class/1360821-diy-w201-transmission-modulator-removal-replace.html
