What is that a power steering pump?
Seriously, a little more context would help for starting a thread.. Take a breath, try again. |
What does it do?
|
That's a Lucas IP, the likes of which we don't see in the US.

Lucas! Will it work if the humidity gets above 70%?

When desperation evolves into its next phase, remove the plates and see if there's a simple o-ring to be replaced. Keep finger pressure on the plates as you remove the screws then release your finger slowly in case there's a spring waiting to jump out.
Alternatively, is there a Lucas service center (centre?) with a friendly technician? Or one who can be made friendly over a pint? Or any Diesel technician? This fellow looks thirsty - http://www.lawsondiesel.co.uk/ Sixto 87 300D |
From your profile you are located in the UK; the place the Fuel Injection Pump came from.
If you cannot get iformation there we in the USA are not likely to get it. Fuel Injection Pumps were not made to be fooled with by the common Mechanics so the information on them is kept buy the companies who make them. Because of the above they expect you to bring the Fuel Injection Pump to an authorized; in your case Lucas shop. The other alternative is to find another used Fuel Injection Pump from a car that had an accident. From the general appearance of it; although I cannot see the front of the IP it looks like a Lucas copy of the Bosch VE type pump used on my Volvo and VW Diesels except that it has electronic do-dads on it. By copy I donot mean the parts interchange but that it operats on the same pricables. |
If you have a read of this it explains a bit about the 604 & the IP. They have a problem with seals going hard & a kit is available .

Hmmm...
A Lucus EPIC.... Hideous bloody things! Worst pump Lucas/CAV/Delphi Ever made,--And they made some Right Corkers over the years!..... EPIC is Delphi's answer to the Bosch VP44! The likes of Citroen/Peugeot 2.1TD and Transit Vans use this abortion. Didnt know many M.B's used it though,--Heard of it, never seen one on M.B.... Guessing its completely quit on you...? --It'll be either the 'ECU (FPCM) on top or internally seized and destroyed itself--they usually do.... Exchange unit I'm afraid is gonna be pricy due to the comparative rareness of this POS.... |
Thanks Alastair, the pump is still going but is leaking from what may be the solenoids. I`ll now try Transits and Peugot forums to get what I need :-).
|
Well done, many thanks.

Looks like the equivalent of delivery valve holder o-rings in an older Bosch pump.
