Question gorilla knob cable adjustment/rubber bushing

my '76 240d is having a hard time shutting down and i think it is the gorilla knob cable. actually i think it is the rubber bushing on the back side of the cable bracket at the ip (it seems to be torn at the bottom). in any case i'm sure i'll have to adjust the cable when i replace the bushing and i was wondering if anyone has a procedure to do this. has anyone replaced the bushing? do i have to remove the bracket from the ip? can i even get this part anymore?

john
