300SDL Fuel Tank Leaking???
Although I'm in the middle of dropping my powertrain back into my car I can't help but wonder about a leak that developed while it's been sitting.
A long story made short; I got the car, removed the powertrain, had to move, topped off the thank with diesel and fuel stabilizer. Car sat for nearly 2 years, sometimes outside, sometimes inside. Somewhere during this time fuel began to drip from near the tank, right onto the passenger side CV boot. The leak is very slow, maybe a quarter gallon a month or less. I can't see where it's coming from but I'm guessing it's the tank. Anyone have any ideas? Should I not have topped off the tank prior to storage?

The tank is not leaking.
One of the two hoses from the tank...........either supply or return.........is leaking. After 25 years, both of them are toast. |

Thanks Brian, I'm glad I asked, I did NOT want to mess with the tank.
Now just don't tell me the lines are a 12 hour job.

The vehicle will usually go 550-600 miles on a tank. Last edited by Brian Carlton; 10-06-2010 at 12:05 AM. |

Maybe by the time I'm done it will have emptied itself.
Thanks for the tip.
