Cruise control fix(ed)

So i finally got my cruise control working, for the most part.

it only works at 60+ mph, i can get it to accelerate using the cruise bar/switch/thing and it will only stay engaged 1/2 the time and the other 1/2 of the time is stumbles between accelerating and maintaining a constant speed.

i imagine the cruise module is on its way out, or possibly that the linkage is has some slack in it that needs to be taken up.

suggestions?

There is a guy in CA that rebuilds them. I don't have his e-mail right now because my puter is not available. Maybe someone else here knows his e-mail address.

Do U have the new style cruise control? Person mentioned above says new style only good for 150,000 miles then needs to be rebuilt?

I strongly recommend that you get actuator evaluated along with amp as amp failure can be caused by a bad actuator.

Yup, it's best to just replace both at once.

GDL will evaluate both actuator and amp for $60. If actuator is OK, then you only need to fix amp.

GDL is the recommended place to have them repaired if you want to keep the stock set up.

Take a look at the Audio Vox ccs-100 install. several have used it with favorable results

Mine will engage and hold for 2 or 3 minutes, then it fluctuates. Feels like I am running out of fuel and then it stops altogether. I purchased a used amp from Dave Hendy, but I have not installed it. I did not want to burn it up if the actuator is bad. Is the actuator the device behind the IP with all the linkage connected to it?

Yes.

It still amazes me that the VDO system in the mercedes has problems almost 100% of the time, but the VDO system in VWs and Audis, which is vacuum based with its own separate pump, still works most of the time with the most common failure being a torn vacuum bulb on the throttle.

I've fiddled around with my cruise system a bit, I cleaned the potentiometer inside the actuator and reflowed any marginal looking solder joints in the amplifier. That got the cruise working great... for about 3 hours. I guess now it's on to replacing capacitors...

I know, but the last time mine acted up I didn't want to wait so I just ordered a new actuator and a rebuilt amp from GDL. That was a few years ago and it's been perfect ever sense.
