Restarting issue with my 300SD

My 1984 300SD has run flawlessly for quite some time (which is why you haven't heard from me). My problem is that the car will start fine in the morning and run like a top, but if I shut it down and immediately try to restart it, the starter will just turn the engine without starting. If I let it sit for a minute or two, it will start normally. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

Mine used to do exactly the same. It stopped doing it after I did the following:
*Diesel Purge.
*Changed all filters (Fuel and air)
*Replaced glow plugs and glow plug relay.
*Valve adjustment.
Since that symptom wasn't what I was aiming to fix I don't know exactly what fixed it, but it doesn't give me trouble after I did that.

Most likely, the vacuum is not bleeding off the shut off diaphragm with the switch. Next time it happens, pull the brown vacuum line off the shut off diaphragm on the back of the injection pump down between the injection pump and the oil filter housing and see if it starts.
