recently installed tie rods. noise...

Hello. Installed tie rods about a week and a few days ago. The tie rods make noise (not a clunk. It's like a rubbing sound) only when I first get the car going. It usually stop after a few minutes. Is this something to be concerned about? Now... Am I 100% sure it's the tie rods? No but I don't remember this noise being there before. I also installed a steering damper but I doubt that's it. My driver's side upper control arm needs to be changed but that's definitely not the noise I'm hearing.

I could possibly record the sound of the noise if necessary.

Forgot to mention that the alignment that was done was a quick and dirty one. Would that have anything to do with it? I didn't want to take the car in for a proper alignment until I got the upper control arm installed.

Here's the vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viqWIDquRQc&hd=1

The noise was there but went away after a few turns. The car was warm so it didn't last very long.

Another thing that I've noticed but attributed to the alignment is that now when I do turns, the steering wheel wants to keep turning instead of going back to center.

I apologize if the vid makes you dizzy.

Anyone? The sound can be heard at :11, :13, and :16. The other sounds are from my noisy seat.

How's the power steering fluid, filter?

Usually a tie rod end would be a click/clunk that you may be able to feel in the wheel.

Not returning to center may be alignment related.

ya. It's not really a clunk. I don't feel it in the wheel. The power steering filter and fluid is fine. I flushed it but I'll recheck just in case.

Gonna take a look at the idler arm bushing tomorrow...

Ok great. The new control arms are going in sometime next week. Will take the car immediately to get a proper alignment.

Thread on steering wheel noise. An assistant might be good to help locate the noise.

Her name is Agnes. Not 100% sure on the name yet. Well see if it sticks. Once I've owned it for a couple months, I'll get the sense of it's personality and would name it accordingly.

Thx Yak. Will check it out!
