slippy 300d
Hi out there, Ive posted before about my shifting issues in my 80 300d . The car only has160k on it and seems to have been pretty well maintained. the problem is when it tries to shift the first time the car pulls well in low and reverse with no problem . Can anybody tell me what I should do other than vacuum and fluid change? The vac is good and Ive ajusted te modulator with not alot of success. It slips when it tries to shift even when the vac line is off. If I feather the pedal I can get it to shift is there a chance Ive got the mod ajusted too high.? Any replies are appreciated . Surely there must be someone out there who has been thru this . Thank you in advance

My problem is that I didn't understand that any better the seventh time I read it than I did the first time.

What i meant was...The first shift 1-2 is flaring, when i let up on the pedal it will shift, then slips. It slips some but pulls in first and reverse.

I have read this a few times too and am still having trouble understanding the problem, but it sounds like it could be the B2 band piston.
If... It shifts into Reverse easily. In the first two gears it is very hard to get it to shift, it flares and usually takes some tries of revving and letting of on the accelerator to make it shift. But once you get to 3rd gear you are fine. You can drive on the highway with no problem, sometimes even accelerating to pass someone downshifting to 3rd and then back up to 4th without a problem. But if you come to a stop it starts having problems again, maybe even some slight jerking as it downshifts through 1st and 2nd as you come to a stop. If this is familiar, then I think you have a busted B2 Band Piston. Do a search on the forum and read some of the posts about how others have done this. Basically, Mercedes used a metal ring for the B2 Band which eventually wears out and destroys the Piston the new part is plastic. One of the only times a plastic part is an upgrade from the originally designed metal part. Also check out Diesel Giant's pictorial which is helpful along with the input you will get on this site.

Carma Thanks alot for the help I was thinking about the b2 piston also . I am still unclear if it will shift past the 2-3 if it does I will replace the piston. I need to get the car out on the road to check for further shifting issues. She wouldn't even move when I first got it due to vac issues( sitting for four years) thanks again for your help and please don't be shy about suggestions im all ears.
