Fuel hose sizes?

Going to replace my tank strainer. While I'm at it, I'd like to tackle replacing all the fuel hoses with biodiesel rated hoses. Where can I find out what size hoses I will need and what hoses I'll need to replace?

I've read that Polyurethane hoses work great. True?

5/16" ID hose will work on the Fuel Tank Screen/Stainer.

The regular Autopart places sell Fuel Injection Hose that has a blue lining with what has been said is the same as Viton.
I believe that info is in the thread below.

Fuel Injection Hose SAE J30R9 or 30R90;
SAE 30R7 is the Regular Fuel Hose.

I have not read about the Polyurethane Hose but if you are going to have to heat the Fuel you are going to use it might not be a good choice.

5"/16" hoses will work on the fuel tank strainer? What about all the other hoses? Diesel Giant has a great tutorial explaining what hoses need to be replaced but he never mentions sizes... Maybe it's an obvious size and only us poor newbie souls are left to wonder wtf size they are!

I want to replace my fuel hoses before running biodiesel. Is this kit a good choice or overkill? I'm going to replace my tank strainer soon and thought since the tank will be drained, I can also do the hoses.

I've been running B100 in my 85 for over two years, the only hoses I replaced were the injector return lines. I used Viton and it's been working just great.

PS Glad to hear you're running Bio in your car!!!

i am assuming you want to run B100. Anything below B20 you dont need to change a thing.

The blue-lined J30R9 hose mentioned above works very well. I think pure viton is not as durable and is mega expensive.

Use #14 ABA stainless steel fuel injection hose clamps with this stuff. Its the correct clamp diameter for the 5/16 J30R9 line.

Viton fuel injector return lines are a fine idea - I always used regular ones from the dealer and never had an issue.

For the line coming down from the tank strainer, you can cut the retaining metal off and there is a hose barb. You can just use a regular fuel injection clamp on it.

First time bio tips:

-If you are replacing these lines, please consider replacing/cleaning the tank screen. Also check how dirty/scummy your tank is and consider having it steam cleaned. Steam cleaning now means no filter changes (perhaps at a bad time) later.
- replace the tank screen o-ring with a viton one. A forum member sells them
- stock up on the rubber collars around the fuel filler neck. Bio eats them. Theres no viton alternative.
- watch the weather! commercial B100 is gel at 30 degrees F.
- do not store B100 for long periods of time in your tank. If you need to park the car for awhile (more than a week or two), fill it with petrodiesel.

I believe both the Fuel Tank Screen outlet and the and Return Hose are both replaced with 5/16" ID Hose.
The same for the Fuel Inlet hoses going into the Fuel Supply Pump and if you replace the fuel return Cigar Hose.

I also replaced the (at one time) clear plastic tubings/hoses on my Fuel Injection pump with 1/4" ID Fuel Hose. The reason is that I did a Fuel Filter Mod and one of them also cracked.
