What's wrong with this picture?

Under the hood of a car I'm looking at. This is a 71 220D. Supposedly 80K+. Help me see where some problems lie.

I see the belt off the AC, What about the air filter, is that problem?, how about the dash, everything OK? Anything else I need to be aware of?

C##P air cleaner, not original.
Steering wheel is cracked. So is dash.
I dont believe 80k miles, maybe 180 or 280 or more.
How well does it run?

I saw the junk air cleaner, has that omitted anything critical as far as driveability of the car?

I don't believe 80K either.

Dash/steering wheel cracks I can live with. Don't know how it runs, haven't seen it in person yet. I'm told its a DD.

Here's a few more pics.

It would want to be cheap !
The rust breakout on that door looks like the car has been done up at least once before.
The air cleaner wont stop it being driven.

Seller claims the mileage is accurate and has some documentation. The car is about 7 hrs. from me so it's a trip to go see it. The interior is "like new" according to him. The pics I have seen of the interior do look good. Hood release cable has come off the handle.

The carpet has been redone with household carpet But the rest of the interior looks pretty good. Can I find carpet for this car and is it outrageously expensive? Any advice?

Why redo the carpet on an "80K" car unless something bad happened to it? Rust underneath?

A/C lines look very unhealthy. Is that corrosion or disintegrating insulation?

Where's the battery? What's it look like?

It looks like the valve cover has been off recently (clean around the gasket) so maybe it's been maintained otherwise.

A 7 hour trip is a long haul. The seller seems adept at digital pics, how about asking him to post a youtube video of it starting and running?

I bet it leaks and so the carpet stank and got removed.

Alternatively there was a Pulp Fiction / Maffia event that could be cleaned off the seats...

Like layback40 says it has gotta be cheap for a 7 hour haul.

Compressor is prolly siezed.

It's a somewhat shaggy old dog but might be a good driver. How much is being asked? I would have a local person from here look at it for you before driving 7 hr.

I may have a carpet set for a 115, but it is beige or tan not black, and its not perfect.

I'm thinking $12-$1500 tops, if it runs well. It looks like I could bring the paint back with a good buffing.
