Injector nozzle swap...

I'm the proud new owner of an 81 300td, very exciting!
A few weeks ago I took advantage of a sale that Elsbett was having and picked up one of their single tank kits for half price. After unpacking it, I realized that it is in no way worth the 1050 bucks it retails for, a number of the components are pretty budget and I'm going to upgrade some of it. I do want to replace my fuel injector nozzles with the Elsbett ones though and I'm wondering about how wise it would be to do this myself. I went through the diesel giant tutorial on this and he made it seem easy but I'm worried about causing engine damage if I screw it up. My initial thought is to try and get another set of injectors, clean them up and install the new nozzles in those so that if I end up with a problem I can put the old ones back in. Do they need to be pressure tested with new nozzles and the shims adjusted? Should I give this job to a pro?
Any thoughts are appreciated....

Do not be apprehensive about it. It is a procedure as simple as Diesel Giant outlines. I did all five of mine recently and had them pump/bench tested before I installed them. Everything turned out great. Just follow the instructions.

And i don't think you Have to have them pressure tested. It's just a good idea.

I believe the Desel Giants "nozzle swapping" is a ploy used to sell the Injector Nozzles he sells (at an inflated price).

Important things that are not done during the DG nozzle swap are: 1-cleaning the Injector parts, 2-the precision surfaces inside of the Injectors are not being lapped flat (some of the people who have done the DG nozzle swap hav had leaking Injectors) so they do not leak after they are assembled, and the Opening/Pop Pressure if the Injectors not done at all.

If you actually want your Injectors rebuilt properly than you have to do it right.

Also I do not know what special magic Elbert Injector Nozzles have but you might contact C Sean Watts who is one of our members who rebuilds Injectors. He also sells made in Germany Monark Injector Nozzles.
PM him for Nozzle Prices and Labor charges.
If you insist on the Elsbert Nozzles I think he would be willing to rebuild your Injectors with them.

While I rebuilt my own Injectors I have Monark Nozzles in both my Mercedes and the Diesel Volvo and am happy. I bought the Nozzles from C Sean Watts.

Here is a thread from a person who did the Diesel Giant Nozzle swap and ended up with some leaking Injectors.
In post #8 300Dman asks if he did the Diesel Giant Nozzle Swap; in post #10 the one who started the thread answers that he did do the Diesel Giant Nozzle Swap.

Installing new nozzles without pressure testing them is a total crap shoot. The odds are stacked heavily against you.

I would not replace nozzles without having the surfaces lapped and the injector pressure-tested; why would you do only half a job?

I sent my injectors to C Sean Watts and had him rebuild them with new Monark nozzles. His prices were very reasonable and the service fast and friendly.

so, though mine are good i'll take your word for it. since i have my rebuilds as spares i ask, "can i still have them professionally rebuilt without purchasing new parts or do i have to start over?"
