Is there an MB 80A alternator???
Ive read all the threads about the saab alternators (two screw post designs). There are alternatives that do fit, but it appears that there is also such a thing as an MB-specific alternator that uses the three-spade connection design like on w123 alternators, that puts out 80A.
Ive tried to look at a lot of older cars on fastlane/all parts express. There is some indication that some of the later w107 alternators may have an 80A three-spade connector, but some of the images conflict. Has anyone found an 80A three-spade MB specific alternator? Thanks!

When you increase the AMPs you really want to increase the wire size. I'm not sure what the factory wire is rated for, but even if the clips fit your may need to have larger wire.

There is a 70Amp with spade connector MB alternator used in early W126 gassers

most of my parts cars have had 80 amp alts in them.
it must be a common part from a gasser similar vintage. they connect with the existing harness and I've had no issues with them.

w201/124's used 80am alternators as an option. some w124's had the spade connectors, some of them had the loop connectors. get one of those that has the right connection, and then swap out the pulley with the original one, and you're gold.

I installed an 80Amp Bosch from a Saab in my 300SD, made a big difference in the amount of juice available! It has a post connector. I just bought an 18" long 2-Gauge cable and modified the original connections. Works perfectly, I've had it installed for nearly 2 years/40k with no issues at all. We did the same thing to one of my dad's SD's.

Saab 80AmpBosch AL124X two posts vs the stock 3 spade plug
Quote:
Lot's of reading here (that mostly discusses the 115Amp AL129X which has 2 posts AND a spade) did not reveal the secret, which is the only thing keeping me from getting it done. ![]() I suspect the two bigger wires that each went to a spade in the stock plug go to the big post on the 80Amp Bosch AL124X while the remaining single smaller wire goes to the smaller post? Just want to make sure and not fry stuff at inaugural turn of key. ![]()

The AL129X has a large post for the main connection. The field connection is made either through the spade or the smaller post. The spade and small post are connected to each other internally as far as I could tell. Took my multimeter and resistance between the two was zero in both directions. Moving the pulley made no difference. I don't have any real experience with my setup since it is new, but the dash light goes out when the car starts and it charges the battery just fine.
