I use searchtempest.com

It used to be craigshelper.com but they've expanded to optionally include ebay, etc as well and therefore changed the name.

there is also allofcraigslist. Craiglook just happened to be the best interface IMO. Sad to see it go. But I don't understand why Craigslist themselves refuses to do a global search within their own site. Seems obvious.

Oh, duh, it's down - i get it now. I thought you had a problem with Craiglook . . . when the problem is really with CL.

Craigslist likes sales to be local. They do not want to be a nationwide clearing house.

Please choose just ONE craigslist site for which your ad is most relevant - this should generally be the site closest to where you are located. If your ad is equally relevant to all locations, your ad does not belong on local craigslist sites at all, please find another service.
Posting the same ad to multiple locations is considered spamming, and is prohibited.

That's easy!

Craigslist was purchased by Ebay. Ebay doesn't need/want the competition, so freezing Craigslist in time and not making it the perfect global buy/sell free site makes sense.

The .org by definition makes it a non-profit so that and not creating a need for a new free site are likely the reasons that it has not transitioned into a pay site.

Just my thoughts.

Some sections of CL require payment. Help wanted ads are $75 a pop in my area.

I offered to pay them $100 and they can send me back $25...

Ebay bought 25% into CL. Enough to make suggestions, not enough to make decisions.

hmm-Its rough all over. It was VERY wise not to give them any more than 25% as long as they dont end up letting it be the slim end of the wedge-- and to get the funds they needed to roll on. Every once in a while c-list has a serious buyer.
