Finally checked MPG

I was mixing WVO/Diesel earlier in the summer and I think I got somewhere around 17 mostly city driving. As the colder weather is here I have been running straight Diesel. Stop and go city driving netted me almost 21mpg on straight Diesel. I didn't think it was bad for 320,000+ miles.

Last time I checked my green SD was getting around 24-25 mpg.

I'm about to check my gold SD when i fill up next, currently sitting at a little over 300 miles to a few ticks above 1/4 tank...

My friend reported that his 560SEL got 12.3 mpg. Lol.

pawoSD 10-20-2010 03:07 PM

I get about 24-26mpg usually in my SD. Wifes 300E gets about 18-22 depends on the driving.

12.5mpg is worth it when driving a 560! :D

I guess I can't complain too much. I will be putting the SD away for the winter and running my W8. Last time I checked that one I was getting around 17.

Whoa, a Passat W8 MANUAL? That thing must be awesome! But....is it FWD?

okyoureabeast 10-20-2010 05:21 PM

I get roughly 25mpg all of the time.

In Ithaca if I put the gear into Slope I can push the MPG down to 17

Correct. All W8's are 4Motion....and yes, it is fast. It will eat Mustangs for lunch.

Woot!

just checked mpg in the 300SD, 23 MPG. Very aggressive, lots of WOT driving. Alda is removed.

However I think my fuel level sender might need cleaned, yellow reserve light was on and it only took 16 gallons to fill it until the nozzle clicked...

Mine has been like that for quite a while. It freaks my wife out when she is in it and I just keep driving with the reserve light on:)

I'm getting about 25 in the city and 27 on the highway in my 84 300TD. I was feeling like that was average but after seeing these numbers it's feeling pretty economical!

byron, keep in mind your car does not have the original engine, so odds are good the speedo is not oe also. 27 highway is doable, if you drive quite sane.
the 24 city sounds high to me. but you do have a really nice car (well... it was!) I'd check the odo against mile markers, and see how close it is.

byronnash 11-01-2010 11:23 AM

That's a good point vstech. I never considered that the engine swap could effect the odometer. The car is definitely not very peppy and I don't really drive it hard either.

vstech 11-01-2010 11:49 AM

an engine swap itself could not affect the odometer, however, if it's not original you are not sure what else isn't either.
